  • China is to enhance its international strategy in the China 4G program towards year 2020. Based on the recent internal memo of MOST and MII, one of the biggest problems of China TD-SCDMA is its lack of international influence and global technical recognition. If you search the database of EI index and IEEE eXplore, you can find near half million papers on W-CDMA or cdma2000, but you can only find less than 200 papers on TD-SCDMA. China must work hard to change this situation in the 4G era.

  • China is to enforce a new spectrum management regulation to encourage competition and promote innovative technology in wireless communications. Based on SRRC memo, China strongly supports dynamic spectrum management mechanism and in long-term, encourage dynamic spectrum access and open wireless architecture (OWA). The new spectrum management guideline will be relaesed at GMC'06 in Beijing.

  • Message from the nation's budgeting offices of China DRC and SAC, the total ICT budgets for the next decade is about $800 billion. In the wireless sectors including broadband wireless, mobile networks and service/application platforms, etc, the budget is about $300 billion where special markets (eGov networks and semi-gov't systems) are about 2/3, and public mass markets are about 1/3. The detailed budgeting chart will be released at GMC'06 in Beijing.

  • China expedites its development on 4G mobile technology, and updates its 3G and 4G evolution strategy accordingly. The China office of Prof. Willie W. LU today released the China 3G/4G Commercial Rollout Timeframe: TD-SCDMA (3Q2008), B3G (1Q2010), 4G (1Q2012). Meanwhile, pre-commercialization field trials will start about one year in advance. The traditional 3G investment has been limited in consideration of the emerging B3G/4G technologies to come much earlier than expected. So, whenever possible, try to use wireline phone or use earphone to your mobile phone. So far, over ten research institutions have found this serious problem with mobile phone, but further research is necessary focusing on health analytical modeling of specific wireless standards.
