Strongly invited by Chinese highest level authorities,
administrations and research institutions,
Prof. Willie W Lu
will be spending more time in China to help lead the China 4G
development program and set the China 4G international strategy
for the coming decade. In the eyes of China central government,
Prof. LU is "one of the most famous and most influential
worldly Chinese pioneers who can move China to the next level of
success", and "his well accredited international
leadership and working experiences in seven countries are the
invaluable assets to help drive China into future".
-
China is to enhance its international strategy in the China 4G program towards year 2020. Based on the recent internal memo of MOST and MII, one of the biggest problems of China TD-SCDMA is its lack of international influence and global technical recognition. If you search the database of EI index and IEEE eXplore, you can find near half million papers on W-CDMA or cdma2000, but you can only find less than 200 papers on TD-SCDMA. China must work hard to change this situation in the 4G era.
-
China is to enforce a new spectrum management regulation to encourage competition and promote innovative technology in wireless communications. Based on SRRC memo, China strongly supports dynamic spectrum management mechanism and in long-term, encourage dynamic spectrum access and open wireless architecture (OWA). The new spectrum management guideline will be relaesed at GMC'06 in Beijing.
-
Message from the nation's budgeting offices of China DRC and SAC, the total ICT budgets for the next decade is about $800 billion. In the wireless sectors including broadband wireless, mobile networks and service/application platforms, etc, the budget is about $300 billion where special markets (eGov networks and semi-gov't systems) are about 2/3, and public mass markets are about 1/3. The detailed budgeting chart will be released at GMC'06 in Beijing.
-
China expedites its development on 4G mobile technology, and updates its 3G and 4G evolution strategy accordingly. The China office of Prof. Willie W. LU today released the
China 3G/4G Commercial Rollout Timeframe: TD-SCDMA (3Q2008), B3G (1Q2010), 4G (1Q2012). Meanwhile, pre-commercialization field trials will start about one year in advance. The traditional 3G investment has been limited in consideration of the emerging B3G/4G technologies to come much earlier than expected. GMC'06 is to report these milestone development whitepapers in October, Beijing.

The U.S. Ctr. for Wireless Comm (cwc.us) recently presented a
research report in USA that mobile phone is dangerous for human
health if you use it continuously over one hour every day and last
for six months and more. The chance to get brain cancer and/or brain
disorder is over twenty times more than those not using mobile phone.
So, whenever possible, try to use wireline phone or use earphone to
your mobile phone. So far, over ten research institutions have found
this serious problem with mobile phone, but further research is
necessary focusing on health analytical modeling of specific wireless
standards.
-

experts of special Olympic telecommunications and networks including
the technical expert team of Athen'2004 Games.
-
"Mission 2020 R&D Plan is to empower our world-class
researchers, scientists and experts to create inventions and define
future technologies more effectively," said Prof. Willie W. Lu,
Consulting Professor of Stanford University and Executive Director
of the Plan. - [DG Press, Geneva, Jan.10th, 2005]
-
"Mission 2020" R&D Plan will become the
largest global R&D collaboration program in the emerging
wireless and mobile communication technologies. Over 100
authorities, industries, foundations and investors will be
participating in this historic joint mission worldwide.
-
GMC'2005 had an extremely important strategic
discussion on "Wireless Broadband Infrastructure for
Sub-rural and Mid-size cities of China" which account
for 66% of business in this industry.
-
GMC'2005 had a special workshop on "Beijing
Olympic'2008 Telecoms and Networks", chaired by Prof.
Peter Stavroulakis, senior technical expert of Athens 2004
Olympic Games networks & systems.
-
IEEE officially published the very important and
authoritative Special Issue on "Wireless
Communications in China: Technology vs. Markets"
led by Prof. Ke Gong, Prof. Willie Lu and Prof. Xuemin Shen
as the first and kickoff issue of 2005. This special issue
provides the most updated information on the emerging
wireless communications in China - the world's largest
wireless market with near 400 million mobile users.
-
GMC supports China Ministry of Information Industry and
Ministry of Science and Technology to help promote the China
emerging next generation wireless and mobile communication
technologies and strategies.
-
GMC has been approved to host the most authoritative
international technical discussions on emerging 4G and B3G
technologies through 2020 in China.
-
GMC'05 Chongqing has been focusing as well, on the "Wireless
and Mobile Communications for Mid-size cities and Rural
areas of China" which have the huge markets with over
$500B business by 2020 (DG China reported).
-
GMC'05 will be co-organized by Mobile World Congress (or
called World Mobile Congress) - the leading global mobile
innovation summit by Delson Group.
-
China speeds-up its pace on 4G R&D and standardization to
try to deploy the initial 4G systems during 2008 Olympic
Games in Beijing. GMC is to strongly support this mission
towards "Vision Mobile 2020".
-

important mission" for the "Mobile 2020 Program" towards the
year 2020 by the government.
-
The government will be approving a new strategy to allow 3G
and 4G networks deployed at free paces subject to market
demands and industry drives, which will greatly encourage
open architecture and open interface of the technologies.
-
GMC technical records are accessible to major international
patent offices including USPTO and EPO to reflect its
technical leadership in the field.
-
GMC becomes the Technological Authority in China's emerging
mobile communication research, development and design. The
GMC Committee represents the most influential scientists,
technologists and decision-makers in China's wireless and
mobile technology definition and standards setting.
-
GMC encourages original technical submissions in integrating
wireless, mobile, sensing and security into one Enhanced
Wireless Platform which is becoming the very hot R&D topic
in the field.
-
"B3G should focus on Open Wireless Architecture, New RF &
Transceiver Technology and New Business Model. These are the
critical factors for a successful mobile communication
industry in the future", said Prof. Willie W. Lu in China
Mobile, Beijing - the world's largest mobile service
provider and network operator. Since early 2004, China has
