  • Chinese central government approved the China long term wireless evolution strategy on December 26th, 2007 to follow the development steps of: TD-SCDMA to TD-OFDMA to TD-OWA. This so-called China TDD-LTE (long term evolution) plan will account for over $50B investment and funds by the government. China has been a very open country in mobile communications since 1998, and will continue to be a worldly leader in the upcoming 4G mobile era.
  • USCWC delivered the world's first 4G mobile smartphone reference design powered by the revolutionary OWA technology platform. This 4G phone can support 8 wireless standards and GPS, Games in one open platform. Unnecessary wireless standards can be removable by an external SIM-like card, and major system modules are extensible, upgradeable and compatible to the computer system architecture.

  • USCWC released the world's first OWA Baseband IP Core for 4G mobile communications. This OWA SoC Core is very important for developing the next generation mobile smartphones including iPhone, Google Phone, Blackberry and other models to support openness, simplicity and mobile Internet for the future mobile phones.

  • China Mobile R&D head - Dr. Zhou Jianmin pointed out that the future phone should converge various different air interfaces including GSM, WCDMA, Wi-Fi, etc into one single terminal to support various services. This is China Mobile's long-term strategy on mobile phone platform.   • USCWC (R) is to expand its research center in Portland, OR to focus on the Future Mobile Phone project including iPhonePlus and 4G Mobile handset.
  • In the monthly SV Executive Club meeting in Palo Alto, Calif., Jan. 13th, 2007, Prof. Willie W. Lu reiterated that "Apple's iPhone will become the successful 4G mobile phone by the OWA technology platform", "iPhone is targeted for the service-oriented and application-oriented mobility platform which should be based on various air interfaces (wireless standards). The multi-layered various air interfaces must rely on Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) technology to be implemented in a future-proven mobile phone. Therefore, without OWA, iPhone is not a future service-oriented mobile phone!", said Prof. Lu.

  • In Samsung's futureUNLIMITED Executive Summit, San Jose, 15th November 2006, Mr. George M. Scalise, President of U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association and also serving on President George W. Bush's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, totally agreed that the future mobile phone will be based on open wireless architecture as a complete consumer electronic product when answering the question by Prof. Willie W. Lu during the summit.

 

  • Professor Willie W. Lu predicted at the 2006 Innovations Day in Palo Alto, California that the future wireless communications will follow two laws: Open Spectrum and Open Architecture. Any company who has such technology will play the key role in the industry.
  • Dr. Nicholas Negroponte, a famous MIT Professor and author of "Being Digital", pointed out that 3G has been totally dead worldwide, especially in Europe. He strongly suggests China skip 3G and move directly to 4G era. "Relying on 3G is just waste of time and capitals".

  • Invited by major medias in China, Prof. Lu delivered the very important China 4G media release and interview at Sina.com in Beijing HQ during the GMC'2006 conference.   • The U.S. Ctr. for Wireless Comm (cwc.us) recently presented a research report in USA that mobile phone is dangerous for human health if you use it continuously over one hour every day and last for six months and more. The chance to get brain cancer and/or brain disorder is over twenty times more than those not using mobile phone. So, whenever possible, try to use wireline phone or use earphone to your mobile phone. So far, over ten research institutions have found this serious problem with mobile phone, but further research is necessary focusing on health analytical modeling of specific wireless standards.

IEEE802 is not a recognized official standard for such case. Therefore, I very much doubt these single-closed standards be successful in these developing countries."
