The
2000 International Conference on broadband wireless access systems (WAS'2000) will be held
at the end of a momentous year, just before the start of the first year of the new
millennium. WAS'2000 will be organized by TF-WAS and Delson Group, and supported/sponsored by major telecom industries.
Most of the worldwide pioneers and leaders in WAS, including ITU-R JRG 8A-9B and IEEE
802.16, will give feature talks at WAS'2000.
Broadband wireless access systems (WAS) have gained
an increased interest during the last two years. This has been fuelled by a large demand
on high frequency utilization as well as a large number of users requiring simultaneous
multi-dimensional high data rate access. The next generation WAS will use a new network
architecture to deliver broadband services in a more generic configuration to residential
and business customers and supports multi-dimensional services and emerging interactive
multimedia communications. Large bandwidth, lower installation cost and ease of deployment
coupled with recent advancements in semiconductor technologies for wireless applications
make WAS an attractive solution for broadband service delivery.
To reflect the technical and professional excellence
of this WAS'2000, selected papers from the Conference proceedings will be converted to
IEEE or ACM/Baltzer Journals as Special Issues on Broadband Wireless Access Systems. Other
contributions will be recommended to ITU-R JRG as input of the technical white papers.
The Conference will be just after Globecom'2000 in
the same place (San Francisco) so that Conference attendees can join these two events
easily.
The site of this Conference in San Francisco /
Silicon Valley will provide an excellent location for participants to become involved with
the rapid advancement of information technology and wireless telecommunications. Broadband
wireless access, Software radio and Reconfigurable RF are all emerging as a result of the
tremendous development of the wireless semiconductor industries.
In addition to state of the art technology this Bay
Area offers wonderful opportunities for participants and their guests. The eclectic mix of
population, the excellent climate and the natural scenic beauty from the Napa Valley in
the north to the Monterey Peninsula in the south are all tourist attractions of note. The
Conference will offer a social program, or you may prefer to enjoy the many Bay Area
tourist opportunities in an informal way. We hope that you will be able to combine work
and leisure during your visit here to make this Conference a truly memorable experience.
